Farm to Table

Moorside Farm, Mottram

An initiative designed to connect local families and children with nature, agriculture, and healthy eating. Hosted at local sites like Moorside Farm, Hobson Moor Road, Mottram, the project teaches participants where food comes from by involving them in caring for farm animals.

Core Activities & Objectives:

The initiative doubles as a wellbeing and education program, helping homeschooled children, families, and neurodivergent individuals develop practical life skills, adults and children learn about animal behaviour and life cycles by feeding chicks, ducks, lambs, piglets, and cows, as well as helping with everyday farm tasks like filling hay nets, harvesting fresh ingredients, and preparing farming based nutritious meals.

Understanding Working Farms

The farms we work with are working farms, and some animals are raised for meat and dairy production. We believe in being open and honest about where food comes from, while ensuring the farms we are involved with treat animals with care and respect throughout their lives.

Discussions are guided by the questions and level of understanding of both children and adults. Our farm team leaders answer difficult questions sensitively, honestly, and in an age-appropriate way.

We respect that some people choose not to eat meat and welcome thoughtful conversations around food, farming, and animal welfare.
