Community Impact Business of the Year Finalists 2024!!!

In March 2024 The Power of Resilience CIC were nominated as Community Impact of the Year for Tameside Business Awards.

We received the exciting news that from over 100 entries for this year’s Tameside Business Awards our organisation was shortlisted as finalists in the  Community Impact Business of the Year Category.

We attended the awards ceremony on Wednesday 27th March and discovered we were the youngest and smallest business represented, which was a huge achievement!

Blackpool Trip

Some of the members of The Power of Resilience CIC had an incredible trip out to Blackpool on Saturday 14th October 2023, thanks to the support of Emmaus Mossley.

We ate fish and chips, walked along the promenade at sunset and drove through the Illuminations.

We laughed so much as we shared our memories of the seaside and fish and chip suppers across the world.

It was a lovely evening and one we’ll rember for years to come!

Thrive Week 4 – Christmas Gifts

This week our participants learnt how to make gonks, rustic hearts and rustic stars for presents for friends and family.

We used natural materials such as twigs, twine, wood, dried flowers and pine cones. Participants co-operated in sharing resources eg the glue gun and clippers, helped each other make rustic stars and shared innovative ideas.

As part of this session we discussed the mental health concerns of the group including isolation and loneliness over the festive season.

This group has cheered me up so much. I’ve looked forward to coming to most of the sessions. I hope we get a chance to do some more as it’s been so much fun.

This evening The Power of Resilience CIC joined in with Willow Wood Hospices’ Festival of Lights. We drank hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows, ate popcorn and meandered around the lights.

We also had the opportunity to visit the on site shop and hear the children’s choir. It was a lovely evening and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Thrive Week 3 – Decoupaging and hand finishing boxes

This week our participants learnt how to decoupage boxes for presents for friends and family. This was an excellent activity using recycled materials and enabled individuals to slow down and concentrate.

As part of this session we discussed the mental health concerns of group members including bereavement and loss, health issues, isolation and loneliness.

I have not seen or spoken to anyone for a week. This group has given me something for me to look forward to.

Thrive Rustic Arts and Crafts: Week 2 – Paper flowers and rustic jars

This week our Rustic Arts resilience workshop was an opportunity for group members to develop community connections, share ideas and relax whilst being creative and learning new skills and techniques.

Participants had the opportunity to make paper flowers. One of our group participants, Sam, demonstrated using a paper napkin and our arts and crafts facilitator Gail Heyes taught us how to making paper roses.

Individuals then chose jars to decorate with a range of rustic arts and crafts materials including wooden embellishments, lace, twine, dried leaves and rose petals.

It is lovely to sit and chat in a safe space.

Thrive Rustic Arts and Crafts Workshop: Week 1 – Card Making

Today was the first in our series of four rustic arts and crafts workshops held at The People’s Gallery, Melbourne Street, Stalybridge.

Participants made a variety of cards for all occasions, building their emotional and mental strength through their artwork.

Reducing isolation and increasing community cohesion, chatting as we complete the arts and crafts activities increases feelings of wellbeing and reduces low mood.
